Welcome to this cozy corner, mom! Motherhood is an exciting journey, but sometimes, loneliness can lurk in the least expected corners. We understand your concerns and want to accompany you on this path. In this article, we’ll explore together how to address and overcome those feelings of loneliness or isolation that may arise during the wonderful journey of being a mother.

1. Understanding that You’re Not Alone:

Motherhood, while magical, can be challenging. We often get immersed in the daily routine and forget that we’re not the only ones experiencing ups and downs. It’s crucial to understand that loneliness is a common and normal emotion. Exploring online or in-person support groups can be a first step towards creating meaningful connections with other mothers who share similar experiences.

2. Establishing Self-Care Routines:

When we become mothers, it’s easy to get lost in the constant demands of childcare. However, it’s vital to remember that taking care of ourselves is not a luxury—it’s a necessity! Establishing small self-care routines, even if they’re just a few minutes a day, can make a big difference in our mental health. From a relaxing shower to a short outdoor walk, every gesture counts to stay connected with ourselves.

3. Exploring New Friendships:

Sometimes, loneliness arises when we distance ourselves from our usual friendships due to raising our children. It’s time to open up to new connections. Participating in mom and baby classes, playgroups, or community events can be an excellent way to meet other mothers in similar situations. Building new friendships provides vital support and breaks the feeling of isolation.

4. Using Technology to Your Advantage:

In the digital age, the world is at the click of a button. Harness the power of social media and apps designed for moms. Engaging in online communities allows you to connect with other women who may be thousands of miles away but share the same joys and challenges of motherhood. Technology can be a powerful tool to eliminate loneliness!

Dear mom, motherhood can be a lonely journey at times, but remember that you’re not alone. By addressing and overcoming those feelings of loneliness, you’re building a bridge to a more enriching and connected motherhood. Explore, experience, and, above all, feel free to seek support when needed. Together, we can create a community where every mom feels supported.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article. Did you resonate with any of the shared experiences? Do you have a story to share or questions to ask? We’d love to hear from you! Feel free to leave your comments or get in touch with us. We’re here for you at every step of this beautiful journey called motherhood.

Hello to all moms and future moms! Breastfeeding is a natural and beautiful act that allows us to create a very special bond with our babies. However, we often find ourselves in situations where we have to breastfeed in public, which can be a bit uncomfortable or even stressful. But don’t worry! In this article, I will give you the best tips so you can breastfeed in public comfortably and safely. I will also debunk some myths about breastfeeding in public that we should get rid of once and for all. Let’s get started!

Why is breastfeeding in public a challenge?

Breastfeeding in public can be a challenge for many mothers, especially in a society that has not fully accepted this natural and beautiful act. Often, women feel uncomfortable or embarrassed to breastfeed in public, either because they fear the reactions of others or because they do not know how to do it comfortably and discreetly. Additionally, there are many myths and taboos about breastfeeding in public that make many women feel insecure and discouraged when it comes to breastfeeding their babies outside of their home.

The best tips for breastfeeding in public

Wear comfortable and appropriate clothing: Choosing the right clothing is essential to breastfeed in public comfortably and discreetly. Opt for comfortable and loose-fitting clothes that allow you to easily access your breast, such as shirts with buttons or zippers, or blouses with side openings.

Practice at home: If you are a first-time mom or still don’t feel very confident breastfeeding in public, practice at home in front of a mirror. This way, you can find the most comfortable position for you and your baby, and you can also practice how to cover yourself with a blanket or scarf if you wish.

Find a quiet place: If you feel more comfortable breastfeeding in private, look for a quiet and safe place where you can breastfeed your baby without distractions or interruptions. Some options may be a baby changing room in a public restroom or a nursing area in a shopping mall or airport.

Use a blanket or scarf if you wish: If you prefer to cover yourself while breastfeeding, use a blanket or scarf that allows you to cover yourself discreetly and comfortably. However, remember that it is not mandatory, and you do not have to do it if you do not feel comfortable.

Stay calm and confident: Breastfeeding in public can be a bit stressful at first, but remember that it is a natural and beautiful act that you have the right to do anytime, anywhere. Stay calm and confident in yourself and your ability to breastfeed your baby.

What to do if someone feels uncomfortable?

Although breastfeeding in public is completely legal and acceptable, some people may feel uncomfortable seeing it. If this happens, it is best to try to remain calm and kindly explain that it is something natural and necessary to feed the baby. If someone continues to show disapproval, it is important to remember that you are not obligated to cover up or stop breastfeeding, and that their discomfort should not be more important than the needs of the baby.

Conclusion

Breastfeeding in public may seem daunting at first, but with a little practice and confidence, it becomes natural and easy. Remember that it is completely legal and acceptable, and you are not obligated to cover up or hide. With these tips and tricks, I hope to have helped you feel more comfortable and secure to breastfeed anywhere and anytime your baby needs it.

Breastfeeding is a natural but complex matter, although every child is different in every possible way, there are particular situations that most of them go through, in which they are similar and which are totally necessary for the evolution during breastfeeding.

Let us first establish some ideas or rather principles of breastfeeding:

Breastfeeding should be exclusive during the first six months of a newborn’s life, the infant needs nothing more than the breast for sustenance, breast milk is sufficient, it contains everything the little one requires.

But it is necessary for you to know that, as the baby grows and develops, it is also necessary for breast milk to change in production quantity and nutrients to cover the infant’s nutritional requirements.

To do this, the baby will go through what are now known as lactation crises or growth spurts.

These developmental milestones usually present themselves as follows:

● The first to appear is around the third week after birth.

● Between week 6 and week 8.

● At three months of age.

● Subsequently at 6 months.

And it is there where we want to stop and clarify some doubts about it, since several things converge during this period and it is very important that you are aware so that you do not get discouraged or for lack of knowledge give up breastfeeding. Did you know these breastfeeding crises?

The first six months are difficult, but they are over.

Yes, we know, between the postpartum period, the late nights, the adaptation to breastfeeding and so many other things, maybe these first six months passed slowly.

The good news is that from now on you will be able to offer your baby complementary feeding. Yes, complementary does not replace breastfeeding, but it does not mean that your milk is now useless and will take a back seat.

Many mothers tend to get confused and abandon breastfeeding, others with the false belief that their milk is now watery do not give it the importance it deserves. The rule should be, continue to offer breast before feeding solids. Your child will know how much and how many times a day to feed.

There are a few things to keep in mind as your child reaches six months:

1. When the little one receives complementary feeding breastfeeding is still important and essential for him, remember that until his first year he is an infant.

2. Some will be fascinated by the new food, others will be more attached to their mother’s breast and in both cases it is fine, it does not mean that you should put breastfeeding aside.

3. When the little one increases his feedings it does not mean that he is dissatisfied, it means that the mother needs to increase her production and the natural way to do this is to increase sucking.

4. Remember that for breastfeeding to flow you must relax and take each growth spurt in stride and although it varies from one infant to another it is just that, a stage and it will soon pass.

Do not rush to despair if you see that your baby decreases or increases his feedings, the essential thing is to know where you are in the process, not to pressure him or put pressure on yourself, knowing that everything is part of a process and that before you know it your baby will be walking, talking or running and breastfeeding will have already passed.

The breastfeeding stage is often neglected as a priority because we already have the newborn in our care. While during pregnancy we spend much of our time and energy eating a balanced diet, taking our vitamins, and drinking enough water, it seems that by the time our baby is born we forget that we are still the main source of nutrients through breastfeeding.

It’s easy to forget to take care of our bodies, get enough sleep, and hydrate, when there is so much to do to keep our little one healthy. But we must remember that breastfeeding care will result in a healthy, well-nourished baby.

Hydrate

During lactation the demand for fluids will increase, so it is important to drink enough water to satisfy thirst. 2 liters of water a day is recommended, also consume foods with high water content, such as watermelon, soups, milk, or tea. Avoiding sugary drinks will help in recovery and maintaining a healthy weight.

Nutrition

The main way to ensure that our baby receives all the necessary nutrients is through the mother’s balanced diet. It should be noted that during breastfeeding we should eat a varied and nutrient-rich diet, similar to that of pregnancy. It is not necessary to increase portions, since milk production will not require more calories than necessary during pregnancy.

It is important to mention that no food increases milk production, as many myths would have us believe, so the consumption of cow’s milk, beer, or atoles should not be encouraged. Milk production is directly linked to demand.

The mother should include plenty of vegetables, a variety of fruits, proteins, carbohydrates and good fats. Eat three meals a day and snacks that include nuts and seeds. In addition to plenty of fluids.

The only foods that should be limited are those that contain large amounts of caffeine, such as energy drinks. Moderate consumption of coffee and tea should not be a problem, one to two cups per day. Also oily fish with a high content of heavy metals such as swordfish, bluefin tuna, shark, mussels and pike. These fish can be consumed in quantities of 120 grams per month according to the Spanish Association of Pediatrics.

Avoid alcohol and tobacco consumption

Avoiding alcohol consumption is necessary during this stage, since alcohol is considered incompatible with breastfeeding and can negatively affect the baby’s health. If consumed, it is recommended that it be in small quantities (60 milliliters) and avoid breastfeeding for the next 3 hours. Co-sleeping should not be practiced after drinking alcohol. It is also recommended to avoid smoking due to the harmful effects of smoke on the newborn’s health.

Rest

As complicated as it may seem, the breastfeeding mother should have adequate rest so that her body can satisfy its needs and also produce enough food for the baby. The practice of co-sleeping is an excellent option for breastfeeding mothers, since it allows the mother to rest while feeding the baby.

Breastfeeding brings innumerable benefits for our little ones, but it should always be the mother’s decision to carry it out, since it implies a great effort on her part. We must also have good support around us to carry out a successful breastfeeding, as it is a team effort. The breastfeeding mother should receive support from her partner, close family, and lactation specialists if necessary. The main care we should take during breastfeeding is that of our person and always respecting our wishes regarding the duration.

During pregnancy our body prepares for an unparalleled task, to maintain a life inside our uterus for 9 months and achieve its maximum development. For this reason we women focus all our energy on eating healthy, going to our medical appointments, and following all the indications.

And everything goes well until the day of the birth, at that moment we enter an unknown and little mentioned stage by maternity books and the women around us, the postpartum. The physical and hormonal changes experienced during pregnancy are interrupted and the body must quickly return to its previous state. All of this happens as we adjust to new life and take care of a newborn.

Postpartum is full of emotions and changes, it is common to wonder if you are doing the right thing, to doubt your ability to take care of your baby, and even to feel loneliness and sadness. And if we add to this the difficulties in establishing successful breastfeeding, the challenge becomes even greater.

To cope with postpartum and breastfeeding, in addition to the support of family and friends, there are many other tools and accessories that will facilitate this task. Here is a list of the essentials.

Compresses

After childbirth or cesarean section, heavy bleeding known as lochia is very common. Having large, absorbent pads will help you feel comfortable.

Absorbent pads

Breast milk production during the first few weeks postpartum can be greater than the newborn’s demand, causing uncomfortable spills in the bra. Disposable or washable pads are a perfect choice.

Hydrogel pads

Although breastfeeding is known as a natural activity for all women, the reality is that it’s not always. That romantic idea of holding your newborn while he or she feeds from your breast and you smile is often nowhere near reality. If you do suffer injuries caused by poor latch-on, hydrogel patches can be your salvation in relieving the pain.

Breast pump

Milk production is not constant during breastfeeding, sometimes your baby will sleep more hours than usual and will not be able to completely empty the breast, the accumulation of milk in addition to causing discomfort can be painful. It is therefore advisable to have an electric or manual breast pump.

A breast pump is also useful for mothers who return to work and want to continue breastfeeding. This will help them maintain an optimal level of production during the hours they are away from home.

Breastfeeding pillow

Finally, a nursing pillow has been a lifesaver for women who choose to breastfeed their newborns. Achieving a comfortable position while holding a baby and trying to heal injuries such as a cesarean section, a tear, or an episiotomy can be challenging. U- or S-shaped pillows will be your best allies.

The postpartum period and breastfeeding have become idealized over time, but for many women they are difficult to cope with, where doubts and emotions are overwhelming. We must keep in mind that feeling this way is more normal than we think, and that our best option is always to seek help from those around us and have the right accessories to improve our days.

The first days of breastfeeding can be challenging for mothers. There are many myths and lack of information that in some cases lead to breastfeeding being abandoned. But, here you will find useful information to cure this problem that affects most women in those first attempts.

WHY DO THEY APPEAR?

First of all, we must be clear that experiencing pain when breastfeeding our little one is not normal. When a baby does not have a proper latch, discomfort begins and eventually if not corrected, painful cracks appear. The best thing to do in these cases to avoid nipple injuries is to find the right position to encourage the newborn to take the nipple and most of the areola. By suckling only the nipple, his gum will exert a very strong pressure and he will not get enough nourishment and, therefore, will cause nipple injuries. Preventing with creams or massages is not effective, as the cause of cracks is not linked to dryness or lack of nipple elasticity, but to a mechanical cause. The nipple is designed for breastfeeding and there is no need to prepare it for the task.

CAUSES

If cracks begin to appear together with pain, it is necessary to seek advice as soon as possible. As we have mentioned, the cause is a bad grip, and we must correct it to prevent it from getting worse. There are three common causes of this type of injury:

Short lingual frenulum

Poor breast latch

Incorrect posture of the baby

Although each case is particular, we can identify these three causes as the most common. The solutions will depend on the severity of the wound: a small wound similar to a scratch can be healed by leaving the chest in the open air for better healing.

SOLUTIONS

When the severity of the pain increases and we are confronted with a wound with pus or with very sore skin, it will be necessary to go to the doctor. Sometimes, it is advisable to use a breast pump.

not to interrupt lactation, but to allow the wound to heal.

Commercial creams are not always the best solution; they may contain local analgesics that disguise the pain, but do not put an end to the problem. In other cases, we have heard that placing the breast milk itself is the solution; however, in cases where there is an infection or the wound is very severe, this practice can worsen the scenario. Nipple cracks and sores are one of the main concerns of mothers, especially new mothers, as well as the stretch marks during pregnancy For this, our recommendation is to always seek professional help, either from a physician or a lactation consultant. The best prevention for this type of condition is information. The pain caused by a bad latch, in many cases, leads to the termination of breastfeeding, but it is not always necessary, if you want to continue your breastfeeding seek advice at the time when the discomfort begins.

During pregnancy, as mothers-to-be, we all want to make sure we make the best choices to offer our children the very best. When the topic of breastfeeding comes up, most of us feel absolutely capable of successful breastfeeding. However, once our baby is born, circumstances may change, forcing us to readjust our original thinking and, why not, opt for mixed breastfeeding.

Importance of food

Feeding the baby is a very important aspect, as it will not only provide him with everything he needs and requires for optimal development, but it will also be a moment of bonding and connection between the parents and the baby. It is advisable to always keep an open mind and decide what is best for both our baby and for us as mothers. Although the World Health Organisation and many national organisations recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, there are cases where it is necessary to include infant formula.

Mixed breastfeeding, what is it?

But what is mixed breastfeeding? Simply put, mixed breastfeeding is a combination of breastfeeding and infant formula supplementation. Feedings can be combined throughout the day, alternating between the two. In turn, the reasons for implementing it can vary; some of them are as follows:

Because the baby is not gaining weight as it should.

By the mother’s decision to return to her daily activities.

During the first weeks of the baby’s life, due to latch-on problems or low milk production.

Mixed breastfeeding can take two forms: simultaneous or alternate. In the first case, simultaneous, the breast is offered to the baby and, once milk production is very low, if the baby still shows signs of hunger, a bottle with formula is used. In the case of alternate breastfeeding, breastfeeding and bottle-feeding are alternated, which makes this the ideal option for mothers who work and are absent for a few hours.

When to start mixed breastfeeding?

Let us remember that exclusive breastfeeding is the most recommended for a newborn, but each case is particular, and sometimes it is necessary to supplement while establishing successful breastfeeding. While, in other cases, it is beneficial for the newborn to alternate between formula and breast. Whatever the case, the truth is that mixed breastfeeding brings many benefits, for example, it will be of great help when weaning the baby from the teat.

Regardless of the reason why you think it is necessary for you to establish mixed breastfeeding, it is crucial that you make the decision in consultation with a paediatrician, as only he or she can guide you as to the best supplement for your baby. At the same time, if the problem has to do with latch-on and production issues, don’t hesitate to approach a lactation specialist, as often all it takes to establish successful breastfeeding is a little help and belief in yourself.

We hope you have found the information useful, and remember that what is best for your baby is what makes them feel good and stay healthy. If exclusive breastfeeding has not been successful, you can still provide all the benefits of breastmilk while helping your baby develop properly, as modern formula milks provide many nutrients and are similar to breastmilk. It can even be a good way to teach your baby to eat and thus reduce choking.

Definitely when children latch onto their bottle there is no way to make them to release it. This is the case of my son, 2 years old and he still loves it. He does not want to leave it by any means. I tried some methods but they did not work for him. Usually it is normal to hear people saying that if the use of the bottle in children is prolonged it may cause consequences on their teeth or affectations at mouth. This made me worry a little more.

These days talking to my grandmother she told me some funny anecdotes about breeding with my mother. She said that my mother loved her bottle so much that she would not let it even for a minute. She clung to it as if she never wanted to release it. It was at that time where I saw the perfect opportunity to ask her how she had done it. I do really needed to know it more if it was so har for her, surely it could work with my son too.

I have always been clear that breastfeeding generates emotional ties that allow the child to provoke a secure attachment, as well as the bottle that has a positive impact on their emotional development because it gives them security and tranquility, so it is not convenient to remove it from one day to the other, not under pressure.

My grandmother told me that the best was to understand the stages of our children, that we must awake the instinct to know what our little ones need from us. Surely, the prolonged attachment to the feeding bottle can be a sign of some emotional lack, of something that may be needed to leave it completely. If so, it is necessary to detect it and strengthen more the affective bonds like sharing more with them, talking to them more, helping them to be less dependent on us by giving them freedom in certain areas to work alone. I said well, I have worked a lot lately and the times to share with him although they are not few, they are also not the same as before. This definitely made me reflect about the importance of time quality and that the change was definitely able to generate consequences on the attachment to his tete. I started there, I decided to spend more time for playing, affections and sharing together .However, not by leading him to overprotection, but on the contrary, I gave him the freedom to do things by himself and teaching him to function more security. Seeing him more confident, I followed my grandmother’s number two advice.

My son used to take 3 feeding bottles a day, as soon as he got up it was the first thing I gave him. Something that my grandmother recommended me and that was definitely the beginning of the change, was to start by removing the morning bottle gradually accustoming him to the moment that he sat at the table to have breakfast instead of his bottle, I would give him a cup of warm milk. I supported this process with motivational words such as “how about if you use a cup like mom?”, or also, how about if we drink in a nice cup together? ”, when my son asked me about his tete, I said that I would give it to him later, until he was used to it.

The following week, I tried to take another bottle from him, my little one loved to drink it after his lunch, but I replaced it again with a cup of warm milk. The last bottle I took from him was the one at night; but, I started this process the following week after taking his lunch bottle, also replacing it with a cup of warm milk at dinner time, following normal habits for sleep, like a rich bath, a story and sleep.

Although it was not easy at the beginning, these tips helped me a lot, accompanied by a good affective process, it allowed the child to detach more easily from his tete, without affecting him emotionally. On the contrary, he became much more self-confident.
