Welcome, dear parents who are embarking on the wonderful journey of parenting! In this exciting chapter of our blog, we’ll be addressing a crucial topic for raising happy and balanced children: setting healthy boundaries and fostering self-regulation skills. We understand that it’s not an easy task, but with love, patience, and effective strategies, we can guide our little ones toward positive emotional and behavioral growth. Join us as we explore practical tips and expert advice to assist you on this passionate journey.

1. The Importance of Boundaries in Parenting

Let’s begin by understanding why boundaries are so critical in parenting. Boundaries provide children with a sense of security and structure in a world full of novelties and challenges. Setting clear limits helps them grasp expectations and learn to make informed decisions. Moreover, it teaches them the valuable skill of self-regulation, which is essential for managing emotions and behavior as they grow.

2. Be a Role Model

Children primarily learn through observation and imitation. This means that your own behavior plays a fundamental role in shaping their habits. If you want your children to develop self-regulation skills, it’s crucial to demonstrate self-regulation in your own daily life. Communicate your own emotions in a healthy manner and show how to handle stress and frustration constructively.

3. Setting Limits Positively

When it comes to setting limits, positive communication is key. Instead of focusing on what shouldn’t be done, guide your children toward what is appropriate. Use clear and specific language to set your expectations. For instance, rather than saying “Don’t shout,” you can say “Let’s speak in a soft voice.” Remember to praise and reward their good behavior to reinforce positivity.

4. Practicing Self-Regulation

Teaching children to self-regulate involves helping them identify their emotions and find healthy ways to express them. Create a safe space where they can openly discuss their feelings. Introduce techniques like deep breathing, counting to ten, or taking a break to calm down. As they practice these strategies, you’ll be providing tools that will serve them throughout their lives.

5. Flexibility and Empathy

While it’s essential to set boundaries, it’s also important to be flexible and empathetic. Acknowledge that each child is unique and may have challenging moments. Listen to their viewpoints, show empathy toward their feelings, and adapt your approaches to their individual needs. This reinforces trust between parents and children and encourages open communication.

In conclusion, raising children with healthy boundaries and self-regulation skills is an invaluable gift we offer them for life. Remember that, as parents, we’re here to guide, support, and love our little ones in their emotional growth. Through positive communication, leading by example, and empathy, we can forge strong connections and provide them with the tools they need to face the world with confidence.
Hello to all moms and future moms! Breastfeeding is a natural and beautiful act that allows us to create a very special bond with our babies. However, we often find ourselves in situations where we have to breastfeed in public, which can be a bit uncomfortable or even stressful. But don’t worry! In this article, I will give you the best tips so you can breastfeed in public comfortably and safely. I will also debunk some myths about breastfeeding in public that we should get rid of once and for all. Let’s get started!

Why is breastfeeding in public a challenge?

Breastfeeding in public can be a challenge for many mothers, especially in a society that has not fully accepted this natural and beautiful act. Often, women feel uncomfortable or embarrassed to breastfeed in public, either because they fear the reactions of others or because they do not know how to do it comfortably and discreetly. Additionally, there are many myths and taboos about breastfeeding in public that make many women feel insecure and discouraged when it comes to breastfeeding their babies outside of their home.

The best tips for breastfeeding in public

Wear comfortable and appropriate clothing: Choosing the right clothing is essential to breastfeed in public comfortably and discreetly. Opt for comfortable and loose-fitting clothes that allow you to easily access your breast, such as shirts with buttons or zippers, or blouses with side openings.

Practice at home: If you are a first-time mom or still don’t feel very confident breastfeeding in public, practice at home in front of a mirror. This way, you can find the most comfortable position for you and your baby, and you can also practice how to cover yourself with a blanket or scarf if you wish.

Find a quiet place: If you feel more comfortable breastfeeding in private, look for a quiet and safe place where you can breastfeed your baby without distractions or interruptions. Some options may be a baby changing room in a public restroom or a nursing area in a shopping mall or airport.

Use a blanket or scarf if you wish: If you prefer to cover yourself while breastfeeding, use a blanket or scarf that allows you to cover yourself discreetly and comfortably. However, remember that it is not mandatory, and you do not have to do it if you do not feel comfortable.

Stay calm and confident: Breastfeeding in public can be a bit stressful at first, but remember that it is a natural and beautiful act that you have the right to do anytime, anywhere. Stay calm and confident in yourself and your ability to breastfeed your baby.

What to do if someone feels uncomfortable?

Although breastfeeding in public is completely legal and acceptable, some people may feel uncomfortable seeing it. If this happens, it is best to try to remain calm and kindly explain that it is something natural and necessary to feed the baby. If someone continues to show disapproval, it is important to remember that you are not obligated to cover up or stop breastfeeding, and that their discomfort should not be more important than the needs of the baby.

Conclusion

Breastfeeding in public may seem daunting at first, but with a little practice and confidence, it becomes natural and easy. Remember that it is completely legal and acceptable, and you are not obligated to cover up or hide. With these tips and tricks, I hope to have helped you feel more comfortable and secure to breastfeed anywhere and anytime your baby needs it.

After birth, the baby develops a series of changes in its physical composition, gains weight and grows. Therefore, it is common that during his first months of life he must feed in large quantities. From the age of one year on, his intake starts to be lower, because his growth after that age is slow and sometimes it happens that my baby doesn’t want to eat.

Many parents think that food intake will be higher in the second year of life, but this is not the case. The child is adapting its organism to a diet similar to that of its parents, for this reason, children will increase their appetite around five or seven years of age as they increase in size.

Also, it is necessary to consider that not all children of the same age are fed in identical portions, some require more food than others, this is determined based on the nutritional requirements of each child.

If the child does not want to eat, the parent must educate him and provide him with foods that are pleasing to his sight, always taking into account the amount of food he needs, according to his nutritional demand. Food should not exceed or decrease the nutritional limits of each person.

Tips for establishing optimal feeding behavior

To encourage healthy eating and in appropriate measures, parents should provide the child with a pleasant environment, the child must understand that feeding is a necessary and voluntary act, without punishment or obligations based on retaliation.

A good strategy is to serve the portion of food needed by the child in the largest plate, in this way, he will believe that you served less food. Also, you could invite him to participate in the cooking tasks, set the table, choose the food he likes the most, help serve his own food and other activities that encourage the child’s autonomy.

If your baby doesn’t want to eat, promote that he/she should be fed together with his/her parents., it is a way to show him how he should behave, what he should eat and the established schedules for each meal. The child’s food should be balanced, they should get used to the flavors of healthy foods, so that in the future they can be added to their diet without problems.

They should eat the amount required for their organism, neither more nor less, taking into account satisfying their hunger and establishing adequate eating habits, without excesses of food so as not to promote obesity and without lack of food so as not to run the risk of nutritional deficit or other related diseases.

Healthy eating

Promoting healthy eating implies not taking punitive measures to make the little one feel frightened or experience every meal as an unpleasant act, this will not help at all, instead, it will make the little one not want to eat.

There will always be other strategies to educate the child to follow a healthy diet, so that each meal is a pleasant experience, encouraging autonomy, creativity and nutritional satisfaction of the child.

Children want to act independently from a very early age, therefore, it is the duty of parents to educate them in each of the areas of their lives, especially hygiene and food.

A healthy life for the little ones implies optimal eating habits, a balanced diet and adequate portions according to the age and nutritional needs of each person. In order to follow these principles, it is necessary to establish a feeding schedule.

If the child knows the family schedules for each meal and snack times, he/she will be able to be confident and encourage healthy activities for his/her good life.

Feeding schedules

Feeding schedules help to avoid tantrums or whims on the part of the child to eat at the time he/she wants. A feeding schedule should be established based on the time the child usually wakes up, his naps and the parents’ routine.

The most important thing in a schedule is that the child is fed every day at the same time, this will make his stomach adapt to meal and snack times, so that the child has enough appetite for the next meal.

An example that can be considered to establish an appropriate schedule is the following:

Breakfast

7:15 am

Snack

Around to 9:30 am

Lunch

Half day

Snack

3:00 pm

Dinner

6 to 7:00 pm

Tips for guiding children to follow a feeding schedule

If the child wants to eat at non-established times, try to balance very well each of his meals, so that the child has enough energy until it is the right time to eat.

In the hours that should not be eaten, the child should only drink water, if you give him milk or juice, he could get full and not want to eat when it is the right time. Also, you can use distraction methods, sometimes when children are bored they manifest that they want to eat something, you must know how to identify when their appetite is real or imaginary.

If the child does not fully eat the portion you served at the time of the meal, you can ask, “Are you sure you ate enough? Because remember that we will not eat again until snack or lunch time.

It is important that the little one is aware of the times of each meal, so he will have to choose to eat well and wait for the next meal of the day.

To encourage healthy eating habits, the child should be provided with a suitable environment, without distractions, where all family members are ready to eat, following the schedule that is being taught to the child.

Remember, all the activities you carry out should serve as an example to the child, if the child observes that you eat at times that are not established, he will also want to do the same, but if he observes discipline in the schedule from his parents or siblings, he will follow their behavior.

The first year of your baby’s life is a time of rapid development, sudden physical and emotional changes, and above all, exploration. One of the most important changes, and that for many mothers is also a source of concern, are the changes in feeding.

If the birthday of your little one is just around the corner, it is likely that you have arisen the doubt about what kind of food you can serve that can also enjoy your baby, or if you can eat the traditional birthday cake, if you have to look for alternatives or if there are certain ingredients that should be discarded within the cake. If you are in doubt about any of these issues, this is for you.

What can’t a 12-month-old baby eat?

The best way to start talking about baby food is to make it clear what a 12-month-old infant cannot eat yet, this to avoid any indigestion issues or something more serious.

Foods that a baby up to 12 months old cannot eat:

• Whole nuts

• Industrial cereals

• Chocolate (especially if they contain palm oil)

• Oily fish (tuna, pike, etc.)

• Honey

• Preserves and sausages

• Soft drinks and bottled juices

• Processed foods high in sugar (cookies, desserts, pastries, etc.)

• Slowly introduce solids, crushed at first, depending on how many solids they have consumed before their first year.

As you can see, there are fewer prohibitions for children who have completed their first year, but there should be some caution with foods that contain excesses of any kind, such as salt, sugar and minerals harmful to the little ones, as well as evaluating how much solid food they have been eating before 12 months of age.

This becomes relevant when we think about the types of foods typically served at a children’s birthday party, such as birthday cake, candy, and some heavy food like pizza. But in the case of your baby’s first birthday, it’s best to opt for healthier foods, such as a lighter alternative to a cake from your usual bakery, leave out the treats, and put together a meal that is in line with what your baby can eat.

What can my baby eat on his first birthday?

Now that it’s clear what a 12-month-old can’t eat, you can plan a meal that he or she may have eaten before and liked, and if it’s something that adults and maybe other babies can enjoy too, all the better.

As for the birthday cake, there are clearly more limitations, such as no chocolate, watch the sugar and nothing processed. The best option, clearly, is a homemade cake, with natural ingredients and taking care of the sugar, but, above all, that the birthday boy or girl only eats a small portion. Now, if baking is not your forte, you can always venture to look for a bakery with healthy alternatives or better yet, a baby bakery that fits the recommended diet for 12-month-olds.

A good decision will always be the healthiest one, and that doesn’t mean that the adults invited to the party can’t enjoy it, as a healthy cake and food option can be fun and delicious regardless of the food, but of course, your little one’s well-being always comes before anything else.
